Because these baskets are designed to hold rice, grains and herbs they are very solid and the lids are removable. Every basket is made by hand, using indigenous raw materials. The type of basket varies from area to area, depending on the availability of raw materials and the use to which the basket is to be put. It can take up to one month to produce a medium sized basket that will be unique is size, shape, colour . A true collectors item.
The shorter basket (on the left) is 17 cm tall, to the top of the lid, and the opening has a diameter of 6 cm. The taller basket (on the right) is 24 cm tall to the top of the lid and the opening has a diameter of 7 cm

The Zulus are the largest tribe in Southern Africa, renowned for their artistry and craftsmanship. The women have taken this traditional art form and turned it into a way in which to supplement their incomes or in many cases, their only means of income.
The women work in their homes where they can assimilate basket-making into their normal routine, giving themselves time to raise their children, work in the fields, collect water and other daily chores.

Shipping costs are listed for each item on our website. If you are purchasing more than one item and we are able to ship them together more efficiently, we will refund the difference. We are really nice people, so we will do whatever we can to keep those costs as low as possible and we will send you a refund if we can.
