A new Committment

We are Celebrating 25 Years of Fair Trade this year, so we are making a new commitment to keeping this page, with current events, updated. While the beginning of the year can be a bit quiet as we do more behind-the-scenes work, we promise to let you know when things start happening again for Global Village Nanaimo. That will make it easier for you to join us or support us!

2020 Fall Store is Now Open

We are excited to announce that our 2020 Seasonal Store is now OPEN! We are at #504- 6581 Aulds Road. That is the same shopping centre as Home Depot, Staples and BCAA. This year we are located beside Wine Kitz. Our store hours are Monday - Saturday, 10 am - 5 pm.

We have set up safety screens and we are doing regular cleaning. Our volunteers are keeping everyone’s safety a priority throughout the day.

You may notice that there are more items in packaging. That is also for your protection as it reduces the amount of handling by people before an item is purchased.

We welcome phone orders, email orders and online orders. These can all be picked up at the curb at the store, or picked up a Academy of Learning, in Nanaimo.

We hope to see you soon!

2020 Spring Store

Even amidst COVID, we were able to open our Spring Pop-Up Store for 4 weeks in Nanaimo North Town Centre in June. Thank you to everyone who came in or phoned in orders during this time! We had a chance to show some of the new products that had arrived from India and to connect - at a distance - with many of our regular customers. Other popular items included our “flower pot baskets” from Vietnam and our “Dr. Bonnie Henry” necklaces from Nepal.

It also gave a very good opportunity to practice and to learn what we need to do to open our main seasonal store later in the year. We were fully set up with hand sanitizer, wipes, plexiglass and markers on the floor. A special thank you to everyone who was flexible and patient as we all learned what we needed to know. We look forward to welcoming everyone for a safe shopping experience in the fall.

2020 Volunteer Luncheon

It is always a treat to spend time thanking our amazing volunteers for the work they have done over the past year. We have approximately 40 people involved with our organization at any given time and we value each and every one of them. This year we welcomed Jan Pullinger as our guest speaker. Thanks to Jan’s knowledge and passion we all learned a little more about the power and positive effects of co-operatives.

Nanaimo Global Film Festival

Global Village Nanaimo is pleased to announce that they will be sponsoring 2 films that are being shown as part of the Global Film Festival on February 7 - 9, 2019.

The funds being used for this sponsorship were donated to Global Village Nanaimo in memory of long time supporter, Vilma Dube, who passed away in early 2018.

Global Village Nanaimo will be offering several "Double Bill" passes for the combined showing of "Fertile Ground: Brewing Change in Northeast India" and " Cooperativa". These films are being shown at 3 pm on Saturday February 9 in Building 355 (Room 203) at Vancouver Island University.

Products will be available for sale, and there will be a short opportunity for discussion after the film as well.

A "Double Bill" pass will allow the ticket holder to either have 2 seats at this combined film showing, or a single seat at this film and at another film after this sponsored event.

Global Village Nanaimo has supported both of the coffee and tea suppliers that will be featured in these films by selling the products in their seasonal store.  Fair trade customers will have a rare opportunity to see behind the scenes and learn more about some of the specific fair trade products available in Nanaimo.

If you are interested in reserving a complimentary "Double Bill" pass for this film, being shown at 3 pm on Saturday February 9,   please send an email to gvnanaimo@gmail.com with the name of the person who will be picking up the ticket at the venue.  Please do not request more than you need, so that we can ensure as many people as possible can attend
